- We are seeking an accomplished and highly experienced In-House Counsel to provide strategic legal guidance and support across the organization’s operations. The successful candidate will play a critical role in safeguarding the company’s legal interests, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing legal risks, and supporting corporate and commercial transactions. This role requires a proactive legal professional with strong business acumen, exceptional negotiation skills, and the ability to provide practical legal solutions that align with organizational objectives.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of contracts, agreements, and legal documents.
- Provide sound legal advice on corporate, commercial, employment, regulatory, and operational matters.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, industry standards, and internal policies.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks across the business.
- Manage litigation, disputes, claims, and liaise with external counsel when necessary.
- Conduct legal research and provide timely opinions on emerging legal and regulatory developments.
- Support corporate governance activities, including board matters, statutory filings, and company secretarial functions.
- Review business transactions and advise management on associated legal implications and risk mitigation strategies.
- Develop, review, and implement policies and procedures to strengthen governance and compliance frameworks.
- Provide legal support for mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships, investments, and business expansion initiatives.
- Deliver legal training and awareness programs to internal stakeholders to foster a culture of compliance.
- Collaborate with business leaders to provide commercially focused legal solutions that drive organizational growth.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5–10 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in corporate and commercial law, preferably gained from a reputable law firm, financial institution, or multinational organization.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian corporate, commercial, labor, and regulatory laws.
- Proven experience in contract drafting, negotiation, and legal documentation.
- Demonstrated expertise in regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and enterprise risk management.
- Experience managing litigation and working with external counsel.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential matters.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and manage multiple legal matters simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.
