Role Description
- This is a full-time, on-site Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist role based in Lagos.
- The Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist will perform and oversee a wide range of routine and specialized laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, immunology, and other relevant disciplines to support accurate diagnosis and patient care.
- The role includes supervising daily laboratory operations, providing technical guidance to junior staff, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures, and reviewing and validating test results for accuracy and timeliness.
- The individual will monitor and maintain laboratory equipment, participate in quality control and assurance programs, and support the implementation of new test methods and technologies.
- The Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist will also collaborate with clinicians and other healthcare professionals, contribute to training and competency assessments, and uphold strict standards for safety, infection prevention, and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
- Strong technical expertise in core laboratory disciplines (e.g., hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, immunology) with the ability to perform, interpret, and validate complex diagnostic tests.
- Proficiency in laboratory quality management, including quality control, quality assurance, documentation, and adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Experience with laboratory information systems, electronic medical records, and basic computer applications used for data entry, reporting, and analysis.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including supervising laboratory staff, mentoring junior scientists, coordinating workflows, and supporting continuous professional development.
- Excellent analytical and critical-thinking abilities, with strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to accuracy and patient safety.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to interact with multidisciplinary teams, explain test results, and contribute to case discussions when needed.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment, manage multiple priorities, and maintain professionalism under pressure.
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field, with current professional registration/licensure as required by relevant regulatory bodies.
