Job Summary
- Responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of the 33kV / 11kV Switchyard, 33/11kV power transformers, HT / LT switchgear, protection relays, and entire power distribution network that supplies the steel plant (melting, rolling, utilities, and auxiliary sections).
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operation and maintenance of 33kV Switchyard, 33/11kV & 11/0.433kV transformers, VCBs, ACBs, SF6 breakers, and associated HT panels.
- Supervise and execute preventive & predictive maintenance of all substation equipment, CTs, PTs, LA, isolators, and earthing systems.
- Coordinate with DISCO / TCN (Ikeja Electric / Transmission Company of Nigeria) for 33kV feeder shutdowns, permits-to-work, and fault rectification.
- Lead fault analysis, relay coordination, and protection settings (over-current, earth-fault, differential, REF, etc.) using numerical relays (Siemens, ABB, Schneider, Alstom, SEL, etc.).
- Maintain and update switchyard single-line diagrams, protection schematics, and relay setting charts.
- Monitor power factor, maximum demand, and implement capacitor bank switching for PF improvement.
- Handle breakdown maintenance of HT/LT motors, PCC/MCC panels, and plant-wide power distribution.
- Ensure compliance with NERC regulations, factory electrical safety standards, and company SOPs.
- Train and supervise technicians and contractors working in the switchyard and substation areas.
- Prepare daily/monthly reports on power consumption, breakdowns, and switchyard performance.
Qualifications & Requirements
- B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering (Power option preferred).
- 5 – 10 years’ hands-on experience in 33kV / 11kV Switchyard & substation maintenance in steel, cement, oil & gas, or heavy manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of power transformers (minimum 10–20 MVA), SF6 / vacuum circuit breakers, and numerical protection relays.

- African Steel Mill is seeking a competent and motivated Female Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering team at the Odogunyan plant.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and equipment within the steel production facility, ensuring optimal plant performance, safety, and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical systems including motors, drives, transformers, panels, MCCs, and PLC-controlled equipment.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on plant electrical equipment to minimize downtime.
- Monitor electrical performance of rolling mill, furnace, cranes, compressors, and auxiliary equipment.
- Diagnose electrical faults and implement timely repairs to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, company procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in plant shutdowns, installations, upgrades, and commissioning of new equipment.
- Support energy efficiency initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
- Supervise technicians and contractors when required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- B.Eng / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- 3 – 10 years of relevant experience in an industrial environment (steel, manufacturing, power plant, cement, or heavy industry is an advantage).
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, motors, drives (VFDs), PLC basics, and power distribution.
