Consultant Neurologist
JOB SUMMARY
- We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and dedicated Consultant Neurologist to join our growing team of medical specialists. The successful candidate will provide expert neurological care to a diverse patient population, collaborate closely with neurosurgeons and other consultants, contribute to academic and research activities, and help drive the continued development of our Neurology department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct neurological consultations for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency cases, covering a broad spectrum of conditions including epilepsy, stroke, neurodegenerative diseases, headache disorders, neuromuscular diseases, movement disorders, and CNS infections.
- Collaborate and liaise with consultants in neurosurgery, internal medicine, radiology, psychiatry, and other disciplines in the management of complex, multi-system cases.
- Supervise and interpret neuro-diagnostic investigations including EEG, EMG, nerve conduction studies, neuroimaging, and lumbar puncture procedures.
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, ward rounds, and clinical conferences.
- Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to resident doctors, medical officers, and other junior clinical staff.
- Contribute actively to the hospital’s research and clinical audit programmes, including preparation and publication of case studies and research findings.
- Participate in continuing medical education (CME) activities, including hospital Morning reviews, rounds and external conferences.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of clinical assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress notes in patient medical records.
- Maintain patient confidentiality, uphold ethical standards, and comply with all relevant hospital policies and medical regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Mandatory Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.
- Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP) — Neurology, OR Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCP) — Neurology.
- Current valid practicing licenses
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year post-fellowship clinical experience as a Neurologist
- Demonstrated expertise in clinical neurological examination, diagnosis, and management of a wide range of neurological disorders.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary clinical team is strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong clinical acumen with excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in neuro-diagnostic procedures (EEG, EMG/NCS, lumbar puncture).
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
