About the Job
The purpose of a Drilling Operator is to operate the drilling machinery in a safe and efficient order to extract minerals, oil, gas and other substances from the Earth. This includes setting up, operating and monitoring the drilling machinery, preparing and monitoring the drilling site, and ensuring safety and environmental regulations are adhered to. The Drilling Operator is also responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of the drilling process, while ensuring that production and other operational targets are met.
What you’ll be doing
- Operate the drilling machine to create blasting holes in rock, following safety protocols and operational procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance on the drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Ensure a safe working environment by implementing safety measures, adhering to safety regulations, and reporting any unsafe condition
- Collaborate with mining engineers and geologists to assess drilling sites and plan drilling operations in line with production demand.
- Maintain accurate records of drilling operations, including depth, pressure, production rates.
- Monitor and keep specific record of drilling accessories consumption, ascertain and eschew waste of drill bits.
- Maybe responsible for supervising junior operators and support staff, providing training and guidance on drilling techniques and safety practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree /HND in any Engineering or technology based discipline
- At least 5 to 8 years’ experience on land / offshore drilling Rigs. Of these years, minimum 3 years must be as a Driller on Land / offshore Drilling Rigs.
- Familiar with Sandvik and Atlas Copco Rigs
- Fully understand the machine operation parameters (feed pressure, percussion pressure, flushing air pressure and temperature).
- Good knowledge of safety regulations and rules applicable in an industrial area
- Knowledge on the usage, maintenance and troubleshooting of Drilling Machine.
- Knowledge of coolant for drilling operations.
- Knowledge of marking and measuring instruments.
- Ability to interpret core samples or cuttings for project requirement
- Good knowledge about equipment safety and other safety rules with its effectiveness.

Ensure completion of mechanical maintenance jobs with the highest level of quality, safety and effectiveness at minimum cost to maximize equipment availability. Apply preventive and predictive maintenance practices, and contribute to their improvement.
What you’ll be doing
- Communicate clearly on information relating to potentially dangerous situations and get confirmation that they are correctly understood.
- Make sure that key equipment is working properly.
- Ensure the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
- Is responsible for the execution and the quality of maintenance work to be carried out on mechanical equipment according to planned work orders.
- Responsible for knowledge transfer and developing team members for improve performance.
- Ensure proper day-to-day scheduling of work and necessary resources. Assign and review work to perform with the craftsmen.
- Ensure, upon completion of repairs, that equipment is in good operating condition, ready to meet operational requirements, fully inspected, tested, clean and safe.
- Ensure and control the quality of maintenance jobs done by subcontractors.
- Provide reporting on repair jobs including consumption of materials, specific tools, man-hours and skills, and fills equipment history files.
- Ensure completion of major operations within schedule (yearly overhaul).
- Contribute in his field, to the development of working methods and definition of procedures and ensure their implementation.
- Keep him/herself informed of general plant practices to ensure “on-call” duty.
- Contribute to Root Cause Analysis

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 5 years’ postgraduate experience in execution (Mechanical)
- Proficiency in the use of maintenance tools like SAP etc
- Excellent leadership and administrative skills
- Good knowledge of reliability based maintenance practices.
- Good problem solving skills through the root cause failure analysis.
- Good knowledge of cement manufacturing processes.
- Good knowledge of safety laws and regulations.
- Good written and verbal communications skills
