Boiler Technician
Job Purpose
- To operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot boiler systems and associated utility equipment to ensure a continuous and reliable supply of steam for pharmaceutical manufacturing operations while complying with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Boiler Operations:
- Operate and monitor steam boilers in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain optimum boiler pressure, temperature, water level, and steam output.
- Perform routine boiler start-up and shutdown procedures.
- Carry out boiler blowdown and ensure proper operation of water treatment systems.
- Monitor fuel consumption and boiler efficiency.
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance:
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on boilers and associated equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair faults on:
- Boilers
- Feed water pumps
- Burners
- Steam pipelines
- Condensate recovery systems
- Valves and safety devices
- Report major equipment failures to the Engineering Supervisor for corrective action.
Inspection & Monitoring:
- Conduct daily inspections of boiler house equipment and utilities.
- Monitor boiler performance and identify abnormalities.
- Ensure all safety devices are functional and calibrated where applicable.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate boiler logbooks and shift reports.
- Record maintenance activities, equipment downtime, and repairs.
- Complete all documentation in compliance with GMP requirements.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Comply with all company HSE policies and GMP requirements.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Report unsafe conditions and participate in incident investigations.
- Maintain good housekeeping within the boiler house.
Continuous Improvement:
- Recommend improvements to enhance boiler efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Participate in equipment improvement projects and utility optimization initiatives.
Qualifications
- OND or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline.
- Valid Boiler Operator Certificate is mandatory.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience operating and maintaining industrial boilers in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in a pharmaceutical, food, FMCG, or similar regulated industry is an added advantage.
