Investment Banking Associate (Financial Services)
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Analysis and Valuation
- Develop and maintain detailed financial models for valuation, forecasting, scenario analysis, and investment appraisal.
- Conduct company valuations using methodologies such as Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), Comparable Company Analysis, and Precedent Transactions.
- Analyse financial statements, industry trends, market dynamics, and investment opportunities.
- Prepare investment recommendations supported by robust financial and commercial analysis.
Portfolio and Investment Monitoring
- Support ongoing monitoring of portfolio companies and investments.
- Review periodic financial and operational performance reports.
- Assist in developing value-creation initiatives and strategic recommendations for portfolio companies.
Transaction Execution
- Support the execution of mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, capital raising, restructuring, and other corporate finance transactions.
- Coordinate due diligence processes, including financial, legal, commercial, and operational reviews.
- Assist in the preparation and review of transaction documentation, including Information Memoranda, Teasers, Pitch Books, Financial Models, and Investment Committee Papers.
- Liaise with clients, regulators, legal advisers, auditors, and other stakeholders throughout transaction lifecycles.
Business Development and Client Coverage
- Support senior bankers in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.
- Assist in preparing client presentations, proposals, and marketing materials.
- Participate in client meetings and contribute to relationship management efforts.
- Monitor market developments and identify potential transaction opportunities.
Research and Market Intelligence
- Conduct sector-specific and macroeconomic research relevant to investment opportunities and client mandates.
- Track developments within the Nigerian and African capital markets.
- Prepare industry reports, market updates, and investment insights for internal and external stakeholders.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Support transaction risk assessments and investment due diligence processes.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records for all transactions and client engagements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field from a highly reputable academic institution. Class of degree – First Class or Second Class Upper (2.1) is a must have.
- Master’s degree (MBA, MSc Finance, or related discipline) is an advantage.
- 6 years of relevant experience in investment banking, corporate finance, private equity, transaction advisory, consulting, or investment management.
- Demonstrated experience in financial modelling, valuation, and transaction execution.
- Experience within the Nigerian financial services sector is preferred.
- Advanced financial modelling and valuation skills.
- Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and financial analysis tools.
- Knowledge of capital markets, corporate finance, and investment products.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent report-writing and documentation abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
