Credit Officer – Loan & Asset Financing
Job Summary
- We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Credit Officer with a strong background in loan and asset financing to join our team..
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate loan and asset financing applications submitted by individuals, SMEs, and corporate clients.
- Conduct comprehensive credit analysis, including assessment of financial statements, bank statements, cash flow, repayment capacity, and credit history.
- Assess the value, ownership, and suitability of assets being financed or pledged as collateral.
- Verify customer documentation and ensure compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements.
- Prepare detailed credit appraisal reports and recommend approval, decline, or modification of credit facilities.
- Structure loan facilities in line with company policies and customers’ repayment capacity.
- Liaise with sales, operations, legal, and recovery teams throughout the loan lifecycle.
- Monitor the performance of the loan portfolio and identify early warning signs of potential defaults.
- Conduct periodic reviews of existing credit facilities and recommend restructuring where necessary.
- Ensure proper perfection of security documentation and collateral registration.
- Maintain accurate credit files and documentation for audit and regulatory purposes.
- Support disbursement processes by confirming that all pre-disbursement conditions have been fulfilled.
- Monitor compliance with internal credit policies, regulatory guidelines, and industry best practices.
- Prepare periodic portfolio reports, risk analysis reports, and management information reports.
- Work closely with the recovery team to manage delinquent accounts and minimize non-performing loans.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Banking, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
Experience:
- 3–6 years of proven experience in credit analysis, loan underwriting, or asset financing.
- Experience in financial institutions, fintech companies, microfinance banks, commercial banks, leasing companies, or auto finance companies is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in financing assets such as:
- Motor vehicles
- Commercial vehicles
- Equipment and machinery
- Generators
- Agricultural equipment
- Construction equipment
- Other movable assets
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong credit appraisal and financial analysis skills.
- Sound understanding of loan underwriting principles.
- Knowledge of asset financing and collateral management.
- Ability to interpret financial statements and cash flow reports.
- Strong risk assessment and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with credit scoring systems, loan management software, and credit bureau reports.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict turnaround times.
