Child Safeguarding Assistant

LOCATION: Mobbar (Damasak)- Borno

DURATION: 11months

Key Responsibilities

Safeguarding Implementation

  • Support the rollout of the organization’s Child Safeguarding Policy across project locations.
  • Ensure safeguarding standards are integrated into child protection, PSS, case management, and community-based activities.
  • Conduct routine safeguarding risk assessments in project sites, schools, camps, and safe spaces.
  • Monitor staff and volunteers’ adherence to safeguarding protocols.

Reporting & Case Handling

  • Receive and document safeguarding concerns in line with confidentiality principles.
  • Support safe and timely referrals through established referral pathways.
  • Maintain secure safeguarding documentation and case records.
  • Immediately escalate serious safeguarding incidents to the Safeguarding Officer.

Capacity Building & Awareness

  • Support safeguarding induction for new staff, volunteers, and community facilitators.
  • Assist in organizing safeguarding awareness sessions for children, caregivers, and community leaders.
  • Promote child-friendly reporting mechanisms within project sites.

Monitoring & Compliance

  • Conduct regular safeguarding compliance checks in activity locations.
  • Support spot checks to ensure code of conduct compliance.
  • Assist in tracking safeguarding action plans and mitigation measures.

Community Engagement

  • Work closely with community structures to strengthen local safeguarding mechanisms.
  • Promote safe participation of children in program design and implementation.
  • Support feedback and complaints mechanisms (FCM).

Qualification 

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Sociology, Education, or related field.
  • Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in child protection or safeguarding programming.
  • Experience working in humanitarian or conflict-affected settings (preferred).
  • Understanding of safeguarding, CP minimum standards, and referral pathways

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of child safeguarding principles, child protection minimum standards, and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).
  • Ability to identify safeguarding risks and support risk mitigation planning.
  • Experience in receiving, documenting, and handling safeguarding concerns confidentially and ethically.
  • Strong documentation and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and demonstrate high ethical standards.
  • Good facilitation and training skills, including supporting safeguarding awareness sessions for staff, partners, and community members.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work with children and vulnerable groups in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner.
  • Good coordination skills and ability to work with multi-sectoral teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage sensitive cases calmly and professionally.
  • Basic understanding of referral pathways and case management processes.
  • High level of integrity, accountability, and commitment to safeguarding principles.
