Head, Audit and Risk Management (HARM)
Job Summary
A reputable Microfinance Bank based in Ekiti State is seeking a highly analytical, objective, and experienced professional for the position of Head, Audit and Risk Management (HARM).
The successful candidate will provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve the bank’s operations. Reporting functionally to the Board Audit & Risk Management Committee and administratively to the Managing Director/CEO, the HARM will oversee the internal audit, risk management, and regulatory compliance frameworks to safeguard the bank’s assets and ensure operational integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit Strategy & Execution: Formulate and implement a comprehensive, risk-based annual internal audit plan evaluating the effectiveness of the bank’s internal controls and accounting systems.
- Risk Management Framework: Identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate operational, credit, liquidity, and strategic risks across all departments and branches.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure absolute compliance with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) guidelines, NDIC regulations, and relevant statutory provisions.
- Internal Control Evaluation: Review internal control mechanisms, credit disbursement procedures, and financial transactions to detect and prevent errors, fraud, or waste.
- Investigations & Reviews: Conduct special investigations into suspected fraudulent activities, policy breaches, or operational bottlenecks, and recommend corrective actions.
- Board & Management Reporting: Prepare and present detailed, objective periodic reports on audit findings, risk exposures, and compliance status to the Board Audit Committee and Executive Management.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 5–8 years of experience in the financial services industry, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role within Internal Audit, Risk Management, or Compliance in a Microfinance Bank or Deposit Money Bank.
- Professional Membership: Professional qualifications such as ACA (ICAN), ACCA, or CIA are mandatory for this role in alignment with CBN fit and proper guidelines. ACIB will be an added advantage.
- Certifications: Evidence of enrollment in or completion of the Microfinance Certification Programme (MCP) is highly preferred.
- Core Competencies: Strong understanding of internal audit methodologies, risk assessment frameworks, financial fraud detection, and CBN Revised Regulatory & Supervisory Guidelines for MFBs.
- Soft Skills: High level of professional skepticism, unquestionable integrity, critical analytical thinking, and excellent reporting skills.
