Driver and Logistics Assistant

Reports to: Project Manager
Functional Supervision: Finance and Administration Officer

Job Summary

The Driver and Logistics Assistant provides safe and reliable driving services and logistical support to the project team. The role ensures secure transport of staff, consultants, and project materials, maintains project vehicles, and supports logistics-related activities such as procurement, field operations, and event organisation. The position contributes to the smooth and efficient implementation of project activities in line with organizational and donor requirements.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Driving & Transportation Services

  • Provide safe, timely, and professional driving services for project staff, visitors, consultants, and partners.
  • Ensure secure transportation of project materials, equipment, and documents to project sites and offices.
  • Plan and follow approved travel routes and schedules, ensuring compliance with road safety regulations.
  • Maintain driving logs, mileage records, and fuel consumption reports.

Vehicle Management & Maintenance

  • Ensure assigned project vehicles are clean, roadworthy, and maintained at all times.
  • Carry out routine vehicle checks and promptly report mechanical issues or repair needs.
  • Coordinate regular servicing, repairs, insurance renewal, and licensing of projectvehicles.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational vehicle use policies and safety standards.

Logistics & Procurement Support

  • Support logistics arrangements for project activities, including trainings,workshops, meetings, outreaches, and field visits.
  • Assist with procurement-related tasks such as collection of quotations, delivery ofsupplies, and documentation.
  • Support transportation and distribution of materials to health facilities, outreachsites, and partners.
  • Assist with asset movement, inventory tracking, and storage management.

Administrative & Field Support

  • Support general administrative tasks as assigned by the Project Manager or Finance and Administration Officer.
  • Assist project staff during field activities and events, including setup and logistics coordination.
  • Support photocopying, filing, and documentation where required.
  • Perform other duties relevant to the role as assigned to support project implementation.

Compliance, Safety & Conduct

  • Adhere to organizational policies, donor requirements, and safeguarding standards.
  • Ensure respectful, professional, and confidential conduct at all times.
  • Promote safety of passengers, materials, and vehicles during all assignments.
  • Report incidents, accidents, or security concerns promptly according to procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of Secondary School Certificate; additional training in logistics or administration is an advantage.
  • Valid Nigerian driver’s license.
  • Defensive driving or professional driving certification is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience as a driver, preferably with an NGO, development project, or corporate organization.
  • Proven experience driving in urban and rural settings.
  • Experience providing logistics or administrative support is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with local road networks and travel conditions.

Technical Skills

  • Good knowledge of vehicle operation, basic maintenance, and safety checks.
  • Ability to maintain accurate logbooks and basic records.
  • Basic knowledge of procurement and logistics processes is desirable.
  • Ability to use simple mobile or communication tools for coordination.

Competencies & Attributes

  • High sense of responsibility, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Strong knowledge of road safety rules and defensive driving practices.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Flexible, reliable, and willing to travel to project sites as required.
  • Fluent in spoken English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
