Community and Content Managers
Job Summary
- We are seeking responsible, organised and community-focused individuals to serve as Community and Content Managers for each platform, each successful candidate will supervise the daily content and information published on the platform for their assigned location. They will also coordinate the promotion of the platform, increase public awareness and build relationships with communities, government departments, local organisations, media outlets, schools, businesses and other relevant stakeholders.
- The role requires someone who understands the people, communities and cultural environment of their location in which they will work. The successful candidate must be able to identify reliable information, communicate effectively and supervise contributors, community representatives and promotional activities.
Key Responsibilities
Content and Information Management
- Monitor all news, announcements, opportunities and public information published on the assigned state platform.
- Review content before publication to ensure it is accurate, appropriate, relevant and clearly written.
- Verify information through reliable and credible sources before it is shared with the public.
- Identify and remove misleading, offensive, harmful, inappropriate or unverified information.
- Ensure that outdated information is corrected, updated or removed promptly.
- Maintain a daily content schedule covering areas such as news, security awareness, public services, education and community events.
- Rewrite, edit and format submitted information into clear and accessible content.
- Coordinate the timely publication of urgent public notices and emergency information.
- Ensure that content is available in English and relevant local languages where required.
- Maintain accurate records of content sources, approvals, corrections and publication dates.
- Ensure consistency in the quality, tone and presentation of content across the platform.
Community Engagement and Platform Promotion
- Develop and implement strategies to promote the platform throughout the assigned state.
- Organise awareness campaigns across local government areas, communities, schools, markets, religious centres, youth organisations, professional groups and business associations.
- Recruit, coordinate and supervise community ambassadors, contributors or local representatives.
- Build relationships with traditional leaders, local government officials, community organisations, journalists, educational institutions, healthcare providers, businesses and civil society groups.
- Encourage residents and organisations to submit verified news, events, opportunities and community announcements.
- Coordinate online promotion through WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and other relevant digital channels.
- Support the production and distribution of promotional materials, including posters, flyers, banners, videos and digital advertisements.
- Represent the platform at community meetings, public events and stakeholder engagements.
- Gather feedback from residents and recommend improvements to the platform.
- Identify opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and community collaborations.
- Develop initiatives that encourage residents to register, use and regularly engage with the platform.
News and Community Monitoring
- Monitor local news outlets, government channels, community networks and credible online sources for important developments.
- Identify news and information that may affect residents of the assigned state.
- Confirm sensitive, urgent or potentially controversial reports before publication.
- Escalate security-related, legal, political or emergency information to management before it is published.
- Monitor comments, messages and user submissions to ensure respectful and responsible communication.
- Respond to misinformation, complaints and content concerns professionally and promptly.
- Ensure that the platform remains politically neutral, inclusive and community-focused.
- Monitor emerging local issues and ensure that important developments are brought to management’s attention.
- Correct inaccurate information quickly and clearly when necessary.
Team and Operational Supervision
- Supervise content officers, community reporters, translators, social media staff, ambassadors and volunteers where applicable.
- Assign daily and weekly tasks to members of the content and community engagement team.
- Review staff and contributor performance and ensure that publishing and promotional targets are achieved.
- Conduct regular meetings with team members and community representatives.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports covering content published, user engagement, outreach activities and platform growth.
- Track website visits, user registrations, social media engagement and participation from different local government areas.
- Maintain records of outreach activities, partnerships and community contacts.
- Work closely with the technical team to report platform problems and recommend improvements.
- Assist management in developing policies for content approval, moderation, corrections, user submissions and community reporting.
- Ensure that operational procedures and content standards are followed consistently.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Political Science, Sociology, English, Business Administration or a related field.
- At least two years of experience in community engagement, media, communications, public relations, journalism, content management, digital marketing or a related role.
- Strong knowledge of the assigned state, including its local government areas, communities, culture and key institutions.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Fluency in the main local language spoken in the assigned state is essential.
- Knowledge of additional local languages would be an advantage.
- Experience managing social media pages, websites or online communities.
- Ability to assess the reliability and credibility of news and information.
- Strong editing, proofreading and communication skills.
- Good organisational, leadership and supervisory skills.
- Ability to work responsibly with limited supervision.
- Willingness to travel within the assigned state when required.
- Ability to work effectively with community leaders, government representatives, organisations and members of the public.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with community organisations, government institutions, NGOs, media organisations or digital platforms.
- Knowledge of online safety, misinformation, fact-checking and content moderation.
- Basic graphic design, photography or video-editing skills.
- Experience using WordPress or another website content management system.
- Familiarity with WhatsApp Business, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and email marketing.
- Ability to interpret website and social media performance data.
- Strong public-speaking, presentation and relationship-building skills.
- Experience organising community campaigns, events or public awareness programmes.
- Ability to translate or coordinate the translation of content into relevant local languages.
