Senior Lab. Technician
We are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Lab Technician to join our Quality Control team in a reputable Road & Building Construction company. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting laboratory and field testing of construction materials in line with international standards and ensuring accurate documentation and reporting.
Job Summary
The Senior Lab Technician will carry out laboratory and field testing of soil, asphalt, and concrete materials while maintaining proper documentation, calibration records, and sample tracking systems. The role requires strong technical competence, accuracy, and adherence to quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory & Field Testing
- Conduct soil, asphalt, concrete, and aggregate testing in accordance with international standards (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO, BS/EN standards).
- Perform field density tests, CBR, compaction control, asphalt sampling and concrete slump tests.
- Support quality control inspections on-site.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
Documentation & Quality Control
- Prepare formal and accurate laboratory test reports.
- Maintain calibration logs for laboratory equipment.
- Manage and track sample inventories (collection, labeling, storage, and disposal).
- Ensure proper documentation for audits and quality assurance reviews.
- Assist in maintaining laboratory housekeeping and safety standards.
Data Management & Reporting
- Perform data entry and compile test results.
- Prepare reports using basic formula-based calculations in Excel.
- Maintain electronic and hard-copy records of laboratory activities.
Requirements
Educational Qualification
- HND/OND/B.Sc. in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience
- Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in a construction materials laboratory (Road & Building projects preferred).
Technical Competencies
- Practical experience in:
- Soil testing (Proctor, CBR, Atterberg limits, field density)
- Asphalt testing (Marshall Stability, extraction, bitumen tests)
- Concrete testing (slump, compressive strength, cube casting)
- Strong knowledge of international testing standards (ASTM, AASHTO, BS/EN).
- Ability to interpret test results and identify non-conformance.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data entry and basic formula-based reporting).
- Good documentation and record-keeping skills.
