School Accountant

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records, including budgets, expenses, and income.
  • Prepare and manage the school’s budget in collaboration with school administrators.
  • Monitor and control expenditures to ensure they remain within budget limits.
  • Process payroll for school staff, ensuring compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain employee records related to salaries, benefits, and deductions.
  • Manage tuition fee collection, issuing invoices and receipts to parents or guardians.
  • Record and reconcile incoming payments from various sources.
  • Process payments to suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Track overdue payments and send reminders to ensure timely collections.
  • Generate financial statements and reports for school management and governing bodies.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial summaries.
  • Analyze financial data to assist in decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Prepare documents and records for internal or external audits.
  • Address audit queries and implement audit recommendations.
  • Maintain records of school assets, such as equipment, furniture, and technology.
  • Oversee purchasing processes and ensure proper documentation for procurement.
  • Communicate financial policies and procedures effectively to management
  • Allocate funds appropriately for projects, activities, and operational needs.
  • Use accounting software and tools to streamline financial processes.
  • Propose and implement improvements to the school’s financial systems and procedures.
  • Support the school’s mission by providing financial insights and recommendations.
  • Assist with special events or projects that require financial oversight.

Requirements

  • Interested candidates should posess a Bachelor’s Degree, HND or NCE in relevant fields with 3 years work experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Tally, or school-specific tools).
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
