Open Market Supervisor
We’re hiring 2 Open Market Supervisors to manage our retail sales operations in Lagos markets. You’ll oversee our presence in assigned markets, manage relationships with traders and retailers, ensure product availability, and hit weekly sales targets. This is a hands-on, field-based role for someone who knows Lagos markets inside-out.
Territory Assignment:
- Supervisor 1: Mile 12, Ketu, Ojota, Ikorodu axis
- Supervisor 2: Daleko, Mushin, Oshodi, Agege axis
What You’ll Do
Daily Market Operations (70%)
- Visit assigned markets 5-6 days per week
- Manage relationships with retailers, traders, and market women
- Take orders and coordinate with operations for delivery
- Ensure HAV products are visible and well-stocked at retail points
- Collect payments (cash and transfer) and reconcile daily
- Monitor competitor activity and pricing in the market
Sales & Collections (20%)
- Meet weekly and monthly sales targets for your territory
- Follow up on outstanding payments from credit customers
- Identify new retail points and onboard them
- Negotiate placement and visibility with key traders
- Report stock-outs and demand patterns to operations
Reporting & Coordination (10%)
- Submit daily sales and collection reports via WhatsApp/app
- Attend weekly team meetings (Mondays)
- Coordinate with delivery team on timing and quantities
- Flag issues (quality complaints, returns, competitor moves) immediately
Requirements
Must Have
- 2+ years experience in market sales, retail, or trading in Lagos
- Deep knowledge of Lagos markets (Mile 12, Daleko, Oyingbo, Oshodi, etc.)
- Existing relationships with traders or market associations is a strong plus
- Ability to handle cash and maintain accurate records
- Strong communication skills in English and Yoruba
- Physically fit for daily market visits in all weather
- Smartphone with WhatsApp for reporting
- Honest, reliable, and trustworthy with money handling
Ideal Candidate
- Previously worked as: market sales rep, distributor salesman, trading company field agent, or ran own trading business
- Experience selling cooking oil, food commodities, or FMCG in open markets
- Member of or connected to market associations (e.g., Palm Oil Sellers Association)
- Lives within or near assigned territory
Nice to Have
- Motorcycle (okada) for mobility, we’ll provide fuel allowance
- Experience with POS or mobile money collections
- Basic record-keeping/bookkeeping skills
