Junior Internal Control Officer

Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Assist in reviewing internal controls across bank operations and highlight areas for improvement.
- Support the conduct of routine audits and risk assessments under supervision.
- Assist in the implementation and documentation of internal control policies and procedures.
- Work closely with the Risk Management and Internal Audit teams on assigned tasks.
- Identify potential control gaps and escalate findings to senior team members.
- Review procurement transactions to ensure compliance with approved policies and procedures.
- Verify supporting documents, approvals, and proper recording of transactions.
- Assist in periodic checks and reviews of procurement processes.
- Support the monitoring of administrative transactions, including travel expenses and asset records.
- Assist in assessing operational risks, particularly in lending activities and internal processes.
- Support the review of financial data, loan portfolios, and basic performance indicators.
- Maintain and update internal control checklists, trackers, and incident logs.
- Follow up on assigned issues to ensure timely resolution.
- Assist in preparing internal control reports for management review.
- Support training sessions and awareness initiatives on internal controls.
- Assist in compiling findings and recommendations for escalation to senior management.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
Qualifications, Necessary Experience and Knowledge:
- At least a bachelor’s degree /HND with a focus in Accounting, Procurement administration, Finance/Risk Management
- Minimum of three years’ experience in related field, preferably in the Banking sector.
- Professional qualifications such as ICAN, ACA, CIA or other related certifications Is an added advantage.
- Track record of risk aversion, sound judgment, integrity, and ethical conduct.
- Strong analytical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel, work flexibly, and manage time effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, fluency in English.
- Good at questioning and obtaining information from customers, vendors and staff.
- Curious and investigative, with a willingness to learn and adapt.
- A fast learner: able to use developed sophisticated tools.
- Disciplined, with good time management skills and sound knowledge of client management.
- Ability to work independently, with a strong understanding of business policies and procedures.
