Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Legal Officer to provide legal advisory services, manage contracts, support regulatory compliance, oversee litigation matters, and ensure adherence to corporate governance standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong commercial law expertise, excellent contract drafting skills, and experience within the financial services sector.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide legal advice and support to business units on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, including loan agreements, deeds of assignment, demand letters, contracts, legal opinions, and memoranda.
• Manage contract administration and maintain an organised database of legal documents and agreements.
• Coordinate and monitor litigation matters, liaising with external counsel and maintaining litigation records.
• Support dispute resolution processes and assist in resolving customer complaints with legal implications.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
• Support corporate governance activities, including board documentation, meeting minutes, and statutory records.
• Conduct legal research and provide analytical insights to support business decisions.
• Monitor regulatory developments and advise management on emerging legal and compliance requirements.
• Facilitate legal awareness training and compliance workshops for employees.
• Attend relevant meetings and prepare legal reports and documentation as required.
• Perform other legal and administrative duties assigned by management.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL. B) from a recognized institution.
• Must be called to the Nigerian Bar and possess a valid practicing license.
• Minimum of 6 years’ post-call experience in a commercial law firm or corporate legal function.
• Experience within financial services, fintech, lending, microfinance, or banking sectors is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of commercial law, contract management, litigation processes, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
• Experience in consumer lending or credit operations is an added advantage.
• Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail, professionalism, and sound judgment.
