Job Summary
- The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager at HR Leverage Africa is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all aspects of the HSE program.
- This role plays a crucial part in promoting a safe and environmentally responsible work culture and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities
HSE Strategy and Policy:
- Develop, implement, and maintain an HSE strategy and policy that aligns with the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Continuously monitor and update HSE policies and procedures to meet changing regulatory requirements.
Compliance and Regulatory Affairs:
- Ensure the plantation complies with all local, state, and national HSE regulations and standards.
- Stay informed about evolving HSE legislation and communicate relevant changes to management and employees.
Risk Assessment and Management:
- Conduct regular risk assessments across the farm, factory, workshop, and estate, identifying potential hazards and taking necessary measures to mitigate them.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive risk management program.
HSE Training and Education:
- Plan and deliver HSE training programs for employees, contractors, and residents to raise awareness and ensure safe work practices.
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
Incident Reporting and Investigation:
- Establish a robust incident reporting system and lead investigations into all accidents, near-misses, and safety violations.
- Recommend corrective actions and preventive measures to prevent recurrences.
Emergency Preparedness:
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, conduct regular drills, and ensure all employees and residents are aware of procedures in case of an emergency.
Environmental Sustainability:
- Oversee the plantation’s environmental initiatives, including waste management, pollution control, and resource conservation.
- Implement programs to minimize the plantation’s environmental footprint.
HSE Audits and Inspections:
- Conduct routine HSE audits and inspections to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and manage corrective action plans as needed.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of all HSE-related activities, including incidents, training, inspections, and audits.
- Prepare and submit HSE reports as required by regulatory agencies and senior management.
