Finance Manager
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the financial health of telecoms engineering projects, ensuring that large-scale infrastructure rollouts—including fiber optics deployment, site builds, retrofit projects, and site maintenance—are profitable, compliant, adequately funded, and accurately invoiced.
- Act as a financial bridge between technical engineering teams and corporate leadership, translating complex project activities, timelines, and risks into sound financial decisions, reports, and strategic insights.
- Monitor Work in Progress (WIP) for long-term engineering and infrastructure contracts.
- Conduct detailed variance analysis (Actual vs. Budget) for site builds, retrofit projects, and maintenance activities.
- Apply and manage the Percentage of Completion (PoC) method for revenue recognition in line with IFRS standards.
- Develop annual budgets and rolling forecasts across engineering and technical departments.
- Perform cost-benefit analysis for capital expenditures (CAPEX) related to telecom equipment, machinery, and site tools.
- Provide timely financial insights to support strategic, operational, and investment decisions.
- Oversee depreciation schedules for specialized telecom equipment and fleet vehicles.
- Ensure accurate tracking, valuation, and control of inventory and spare parts used in field maintenance and site operations.
- Ensure compliance with telecom-specific tax regulations, statutory obligations, and licensing requirements.
- Design and enforce internal control systems to prevent financial leakages in procurement, subcontracting, and project execution.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and operations teams to understand telecoms engineering activities such as tower heights, backhaul capacity, permitting delays, fiber rollouts, and infrastructure deployment schedules.
- Translate technical milestones and operational constraints into financial forecasts, cash flow planning, risk assessments, and revenue recognition decisions.
Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field, plus a professional certification (ICAAN, CPA, ACCA, or CIMA).
- Minimum of 5 years accounting experience, preferably within telecoms or engineering.
- Advanced Excel (financial modeling) and ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics.
- Strong understanding of IFRS 15 – Revenue from Contracts with Customers.
Required Competencies:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, project-based revenue recognition (IFRS 15), budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
- Ability to comprehend telecoms engineering operations, including fiber deployments, site builds, retrofits, and infrastructure maintenance, and translate them into financial metrics.
- High proficiency in financial modeling, variance analysis, and scenario planning to support strategic decision-making.
- Advanced Excel skills (modeling, pivot tables, complex formulas) and experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics.
- Knowledge of telecom regulations, tax obligations, licensing, and strong internal control practices to prevent leakage.
- Ability to clearly convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders, including engineers and executives.
- Experience leading finance teams and working collaboratively across technical and corporate departments.
- Capacity to identify financial risks from technical project constraints and provide actionable solutions.
- High accuracy in accounting, reporting, and financial analysis under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrates honesty, ethical standards, and reliability in financial management.
