Assistant Distribution Manager
Job Summary
- The Assistant Distribution Manager will support the Distribution Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the warehouse and distribution network. You will be responsible for ensuring the timely, accurate, and damage-free delivery of electronic goods and home appliances to retailers and customers. This role focuses on optimizing logistics processes, managing inventory accuracy, leading warehouse staff, and maintaining safety standards in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Distribution & Logistics Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day movement of goods from the central warehouse to regional hubs and direct customers.
- Plan and schedule delivery routes to ensure cost-effectiveness and timely delivery, especially during peak seasons.
- Coordinate with the transport team and third-party logistics (3PL) providers to manage fleet capacity.
- Monitor the handling of fragile, high-value electronic items to minimize transit damage.
Warehouse & Inventory Management
- Supervise the receipt, inspection, and put-away of incoming stock from manufacturers.
- Implement inventory control measures to ensure accuracy between physical stock and the system (ERP).
- Monitor expiry dates or model lifecycles to prevent obsolescence of older electronic models.
- Manage reverse logistics: oversee the return, replacement, and repair logistics for defective or damaged products.
Team Leadership
- Supervise, train, and motivate warehouse staff, loaders, and drivers.
- Assign daily tasks and shifts to ensure adequate coverage for operations.
- Conduct performance evaluations and enforce company policies regarding safety and conduct.
Process Improvement & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations regarding the storage of electronics (fire hazards, stacking limits).
- Identify bottlenecks in the supply chain and suggest improvements to reduce turnaround time.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment (5S methodology).
Reporting & Coordination
- Liaise with the Sales and Customer Service teams to prioritize urgent deliveries.
- Prepare daily dispatch reports, inventory reports, and damage reports for management.
- Assist in reconciling freight bills and logistics costs.
Qualifications and Requirements
Educational Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree (MBA) or professional certification in logistics (e.g., CILT, APICS) is a plus.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in logistics, warehouse, or distribution management.
- Must have prior experience handling electronics, FMCG, or home appliances (experience with furniture or glassware is also relevant due to fragility).
- Experience using an ERP system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) is mandatory.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs for data analysis).
- Strong understanding of route planning and inventory management principles (FIFO/FEFO).
- Knowledge of safety standards for storing electrical goods.
