Account Officer

An Account Officer manages a company’s financial records, handling daily transactions like invoices, payments (AP/AR), expenses, and ensuring accuracy by reconciling accounts and preparing financial statements, often working with clients and internal teams, and may involve compliance, audits, or client relationship management depending on the industry. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Financial Record Keeping: Maintaining detailed books, including general ledger entries, cost records, and transaction histories.
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable: Processing invoices, sending bills, tracking payments, and managing collections for overdue accounts.
  • Reconciliation: Regularly balancing bank statements, credit cards, and other financial accounts.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Preparing financial reports and statements, analyzing data for insights, and assisting with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Compliance: Ensuring adherence to financial regulations and supporting audits.
  • Client Interaction: Handling client account inquiries, building relationships, and resolving discrepancies (especially in financial services). 

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Often a High School Diploma/GED, with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance preferred.
  • Experience: Bookkeeping experience is essential, potentially in a similar role.
  • Technical Skills: Strong math, computer, and organizational skills; proficiency with accounting software.
  • Soft Skills: Attention to detail, problem-solving, communication, and client management.
